Where the data comes from

Retaileads combines business listings from multiple public sources, including the details businesses publish online and on major maps and directory services. Every business gets one record with a stable identifier, so it can be matched across sources and across updates, and we refresh the database every month.

We clean each update and turn it into the lists on this site. The email addresses are the ones businesses publish in their listings. We do not guess addresses from name patterns, and we do not scrape inboxes.

How we clean it

States are normalized to two-letter codes, so “California”, “Calif.” and “CA” all become CA.
ZIP codes are reduced to a clean five-digit or ZIP+4 value, recovering the ZIP from messy fields where one is present.
Phone numbers are normalized to international E.164 format (+15125550123), so they import cleanly into dialers and CRMs.
Empty values that the source ships as blank strings are treated as missing, so fill rates are not inflated.

What we leave out

Businesses marked permanently closed.
Places that are not businesses, such as neighborhoods, parks and geographic features.
Places outside the 50 states and Washington, DC.

Accuracy, honestly

Business data decays. Owners change email providers, shops close, and some listings are duplicated across sources. Before a large campaign, run your export through an email verification service and remove bounces.
